Learning Spanish

Some days ago I wrote about some problems I face when learning German. I was a bit cruel and ironic and I think it is fair that I say something about difficulties when learning Spanish, although that is not my case since I learnt Spanish when I was a young boy and hopefully I have reached a fairly acceptable level.

1. Spanish verbs seem to have been designed by Devil, since there are a lot of suffixes depending on the person referred, the modus, the tense,... Wonderful. Why do not keep the verb unchanged and compulsory add the subject? No, that would make life easier and withouth challenges. For your relief, let me tell you, learners of Spanish, that even Spanish teenagers have problems when identifying verb tenses.
2. Related to the previous bullet, in Spanish we have a subjunctive modus, used when expressing wishes, opinions, fears,... Italian has quite a similar structure but not any other Germanic language, such as English or German.
3. My favourite characteristic is that we have two different verbs for the concept "to be" in English: "ser" and "estar". When to use each verb depends on the context and on so many other things that I love it; I know I am being cruel but I love it, je, je, je.
4. Pronounciation pose also some problems with strange sounds such as "j" in "Juan", "z" in "zorro", "r" in "zorro" or "r" in "pera". What can I say? Life is tough, babies...
5. When writing in Spanish, accents are also a problem for foreign learners... And also for the largest part of the population. But I prefer words with accents since it gives a remarkable feature to our language. A lot of native university students have given up in this fight, so you are not alone in dispair.
   

It seems I have been a bit cruel and sarcastic. I just hope not to have made mistakes in English or otherwise I could be merciless criticized. With the problems I have learning foreign language I should thank God (or whoever is in charge up there) for having made me Spaniard.
