Homo airportus

I have been in many airports throughout my life and, as it usually happens, I have my favourite airports as well as some interesting experiences in them. Firstly, my favourite airport is Heathrow, maybe because it is in London and London is one of my favourite cities. An airport I do not appreciate very much is Frankfurt, as it is huge, but with nothing inside but corridors. It only has two magazins. Unbelievable.

About experiences, I have positive ones and negatives ones. Among the lattest, I had to wait three hours in Rome and I landed in Madrid at 2 a.m., finding the airport completely empty for myself. In the airport in Rome, we saw the basketball team of Bologne, one of the most importants in Europe, and I asked one of its players for a photo. I spoke to him in Italian and he was American...

Then, in the train going to Orly Airport in Paris, I lost my boss. We were going back to Spain after a meeting in Paris and we took the train to the airport, it was so crowded that I could not take the train with him. Luckily, he waited for me in the next station.

What else? As I am used to big airports such as Barajas in Madrid or Heathrow in London, I feel a bit lost when I am going to a small one, like Verona or Strasbourg. But as far as they work correctly, size does not matter, at least to me.

Once I took a plane to London because I had been invited to have dinner with some friends on Friday. But the flight was so much delayed that I realized that I will not be able to make it on time and I left the plane, once I was seated and with my belt fastened. Luckily, after some calls I got my money back.

Last but not least, the best one. One of my friends was getting married in the Canary Islands and we were invited there. A friend of mine and me pretended to take a plane on Friday afternoon, after work. But when we arrived to the desk, we were kindly told that there was no seat available for us. All we could do was wait for cancellations in the boarding gate. Then we waited and waited but it seemed that there were no cancellations. But finally, the worker of the airline took a wise decision: we got Business Class seats and as flights to the Canary Islands are intercontinental flights, that means a big difference with economy class. We really enjoyed our two hours in Business Class.
